Inaugural Racer Classic

In November of 2024 the Speech & Debate Union hosted the Racer Classic, our first ever high school speech tournament. Murray State was the host site for the Mark Etherton Invitational (run by Murray High & Murray Middle) in January of 2024 and 2025, but we had never hosted our own event.

The Racer Classic was a senior speech tournament, meaning it was geared toward high school competitors, but middle school students were allowed to compete at their coach’s discretion. 7 high schools and 2 middle schools attended from Kentucky and Tennessee. This was an excellent community event, with Murray State faculty volunteering to help judge the final round.

Murray State will host the second annual Racer Classic in November 2025, and it will be a senior AND junior speech tournament.
