Murray Tops KFA State Championship
Murray State was the 2025 host site for the Kentucky Forensics Association (KFA) State Championship, which ran concurrently with our annual Jackson Purchase Swing. In addition to hosting, SDU students also competed in debate and numerous speech events. 5 Kentucky schools participated in the showdown for state titles, including Western Kentucky University, Owensboro Community & Technical College, Murray State, Transylvania University, and University of the Cumberlands.
15 schools from 6 states attended the Jackson Purchase Swing this year, which was double our tournament size from the previous year.
Awards:
Caleb McCurren was the KY State Champion in novice IPDA debate, besting powerhouses WKU and Transylvania on his way to finals.

Collectively, Murray State’s debaters had a 66% win rate: a personal school best.
